Tanaka Yukio, better known by his nickname Koyuki is a 14 year old who feels disconnected from life in general. Through the act of saving a mismatched dog, he meets guitarist Minami Ryuusuke, and becomes involved in Ryuusuke`s new band BECK. Koyuki`s life starts to change as the band struggles towards fame.

Ignoring the strange title, I found myself doubting what this anime might hold when I prepared to watch the first episode of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Whatever strange, quirky title it had, I watched the first episode, and now I can see how this show was left undefined in terms of a genre: it wasn't like anything I've thought anime could be, period.
